Exercising on the Detox

While undertaking the Lemon Detox Diet, strenuous exercise should be avoided as intense exertion encourages toxins to be rabsorbed rather than eliminated. When we engage in vigorous activity the body is forced to call upon extra reserves of energy and synthesizes energy from protein and fat. This is a demanding process distracting the body from its cleansing priorities and when compounded by the release of lactic acid from muscular activity it only increases the toxic load.

Gentle exercise can however be very helpful to the cleansing process. The key is finding the right balance of activity and rest. Adequate rest is crucial during the Lemon Detox Diet, while resting the body performs its vital cleansing tasks. Most athletes return to full training after the diet with renewed energy and enthusiasm. You’ll find that your body performs more efficiently when it is cleansed and purified, experiencing higher energy levels and performance.

Why we need to cleanse

Every once in a while, every machine needs an overhaul, every system needs a cleaning, every worker needs a break.

We service our vehicles every once in a while to free them from any blockages or complications and to get them back to their peak performance. If we leave our vehicles for too long without a service, they begin to slow down, losing their vitality and performance. Usually problem after problem will occur. With regular servicing, our vehicles become revitalised and more reliable, and able to function efficiently.

Our bodies are no different....

If we keep trashing our bodies without a constant service we lose our vitality and as a whole we lose sight of how we once used to perform. With an increasing build up of toxins we begin to slow down, we become fatigued, worn out like our vehicles.

There becomes an increase of unnecessary toxins entering our bodies. Numerous chemicals and toxins that have been introduced into the natural environment can find their ways into our bodies through the air we breathe and the water we drink. All of these toxins become part of your daily diet.

Any substance that is brought into our bodies, either natural or artificial, has to be either absorbed by our bodies or eliminated, or it will become toxic in our system. If the intake of such toxins is more than our eliminatory organs (kidneys, liver, lungs and skin) can eliminate then we get a build up of toxic substances.

The Lemon Detox Diet is a simple, safe and effective cleansing program that will revitalize your body and help you achieve the lifestyle that you want. The Lemon Detox Diet lets the body cleanse itself naturally while you take a break from solid food.

People who have completed The Lemon Detox program frequently report a wide variety of benefits including:

• Cleansing the body
• Weight loss if overweight: 3-6kg in 10 days
• Improved confidence and self-esteem
• Stronger willpower and determination
• Able to adopt better eating patterns
• Able to kick start an improved lifestyle
• Glowing skin
• Happier, more positive outlook
• Greater sense of inner peace
• Boost energy and endurance
• Shinier hair and stronger nails
• Increased vigour and vitality

This information is not new. It is an ancient way of life that has worked for thousands of years before science was ever around and has prominent roots in many cultures and religions, and has stayed relevant through centuries and throughout the development of science for one reason: it works.

Bee pollen for hay fever

As we enter into the warmer months of spring and summer, hay fever, which is a common problem affects a large number of people.

An allergy occurs when your body develops an immune response to allergens which creates antibodies. The antibodies then activate receptors on your cells which results in a release of histamine, causing an allergic reaction (puffy eyes, runny nose, etc). Similarly to over-the-counter allergy medications, bee pollen reduces histamine release which helps to lessen or eliminate allergic reactions

If you are a beginner, introduce bee pollen into your diet slowly, a granule or two at a time. The optimal serving of pollen varies with individual needs. You should gradually increase your serving to one tablespoon a day.

Foods to aid digestion

In order to have good health, you need to have a healthy digestive system. There are plenty of foods that can help with digestion and greatly increase your health.

1. Senna tea - senna tea is a mild laxative and is great for cleaning out your digestive system. It should only be used occasionally.

2. Peppermint tea - peppermint tea aids digestion and can settle any stomach issues. It is a great tea to have throughout the day that provides plenty of benefits.

3. Beetroot - beetroot is well known to assist in flushing out your large intestines and is a great thing to include in your diet either in salads, but especially in juices or in smoothies at the beginning of your day on an empty stomach.

4. Lemon - lemon is also great for cleansing the digestive system. For best results have half a lemon squeezed in warm water first thing in the morning, or even have a slice of lemon in your bottle of water throughout the day.

Cleansing for summer

Spring is well under way and summer is fast approaching. So if you've been slacking over winter, now is your best chance to kick the comfort foods and bad habits and make a change. When the weather starts to warm up it's generally natural for us to lean towards lighter foods and more water, if you're having trouble kicking bad habits, a detox may be your best option to get back on the right track.

Lemon Detox is an effective way to reset your eating habits and get rid of cravings, which can be the biggest hurdle when trying to clean up your eating.
The 7 day cleanse is the most popular and effective, and the 14 day cleanse is best for seasoned detoxers. If you want more flexibility, the 50:50 cleanse or relaxed version is also an option.

When can you NOT do the detox

The detox is an all natural program and very safe, however there are a few circumstances in which it is not safe.

  1. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers - due to the nature of the detox, it is not recommended to undertake the lemon detox while pregnant or lactating. While detoxing, the toxins in your body are released into your blood stream, this can then pass on these toxins to baby through either the placenta or the milk.
  2. Type 1 diabetics - due to the high fructose content of the lemon detox it is not recommended to undertake the detox if you are type one diabetic. Type 2 diabetics should consult their doctor before undertaking the program.
  3. Medication - if you are taking medication, a doctor should be consulted beforehand to ensure that there is no risk in detoxing.
  4. High blood pressure - the detox is safe to do if you have high blood pressure, the salt water drink should be omitted and replaced with senna tea. If medication is taken for blood pressure, a doctor should be consulted first.

Tips for maximizing your detox

  1. Stay Hydrated - hydration is so important on a everyday basis, and particularly when you are undertaking a detox. It keeps your body working properly, your metabolism going and helps with flushing of toxins.
  2. Rest - it is important not to exert your body when detoxing. Your body requires rest so that the majority of your energy and blood flow can be directed to assisting with the removal of toxins.
  3. Body brushing - use a body brush all over your body, always brushing towards the heart, to increase circulation and assist with toxin removal.

Feeling hungry on the detox

Usually, the first thought people have when hearing of the Lemon Detox is "but won't I be hungry?!".

Generally, people find that they are quite hungry on the first few days, purely due to their mentality. It really is mind over matter, because you are still eating (albeit in liquid form) throughout the cleanse. To curb your hunger, first and foremost, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water. Not only does this help with the cleansing process, but hydration is important. Other options is to drink some herbal tea. Sometimes the feeling of hunger can just be the desire for some variety. If you do choose to have some tea, stick to caffeine free, relaxing teas such as peppermint or chamomile.
If you get to the point that you can't take it anymore, you're about to crack if you don't get something in your stomach, have some freshly squeezed orange juice or vegetable soup broth (salt free). This will hopefully fix your hunger without compromising the detox at all.

Why the full body cleanse is most effective!

The single most important part of a detox program is not eating solid food. Some people worry at the prospect of going without solid foods, yet such fears are groundless. Not eating may sound daunting, but it is much easier than you think. The Lemon Detox cleanse is based on consuming liquid food. It is not a fast. A true fast is complete abstinence from food of any kind. The Lemon Detox drink, however, is a liquid food, energising the body while you take a break from solid food.

It is very important not to burden the body with solid food during the Lemon Detox program, as it hinders the cleansing process and reduces its effectiveness. Most detox diets that promise an internal cleanse whilst still consuming food will not do as well as complete abstinence from food. Here's why:

Food contains chemicals and additives, so consuming it will add more toxins during a fast. This hinders your ability to release the accumulated toxic build-up present in your body.

Eating requires a lot of energy to digest, assimilate, and eliminate. This is energy intensive, and your body is not able to rest and restore. When you stop eating, your whole body is at rest. This is when the body allows itself to restore balance. In short, your body becomes rejuvenated.

Although the relaxed version incorporates eating a healthy meal per day, it is only a minimal consumption of food and will not dramatically hinder the detox program, compared to detox diets that require constant consumption of solid foods.

A breakdown of the Lemon Detox ingredients

Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup

The Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup comes from the sap of the 'Birds Eye Maple' tree and the Arenga and Kitul palms that grow in the tropics. The Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup is the base and a very important part of the Lemon Detox drink, it provides plenty of energy and nourishment while undertaking the detox.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper is the second ingredient in the Lemon Detox drink. It is a powerful natural metabolizer, it helps to support and increase the metabolic rate, increase circulatory flow, and aid digestion, all of which make it a powerful detox aid. It also adds a zing to the drink.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is the final ingredient (other than water) in the Detox drink. Lemon is rich in vitamin C, high in antioxidants, supports the immune system and aids digestion and detoxification.

Senna Tea

Senna tea is a mild laxative which is taken every night during the detox program. The tea basically helps to breakdown any solid waste in the digestive system.

Sea Salt

The sea salt works in conjunction with the senna tea. It is dissolved in water and taken in the morning and helps to flush out the digestive system particularly of the broken down waste from the senna tea.

Bee Pollen - After the Lemon Detox

After doing the detox, it is important to ensure that your body is given enough nutrients.
Lacking of essential nutrients can cause irrational cravings, which then lead to weight gain. The cleansing process is followed by a recovery stage. The body must receive (particularly in recovery) all the nutrients that are needed for it to function well. A wholesome diet, as always, is the most important factor to achieve this. To achieve maximum benefits, add Bee Pollen to your daily diet to boost your nutrient intake.

Bee Pollen is one of natures most complete super foods when it comes to its nutrient profile. It has 25% protein, which is a complete protein (meaning that it contains all essential amino acids), is rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements, fatty acids and enzymes, can improve energy and stamina and much more.

It is recommended to take one teaspoon twice a day. Do not heat it. In order for it to be best absorbed by the body, take it via the sub lingual method (putting it under your tongue).

Different versions of Lemon Detox

There are 3 main different versions of the Lemon Detox Program

1. FULL BODY CLEANSE

This is the classic and most common version that has been used by thousands of people throughout the world. Of all the cleansing versions, this version is the quickest and most effective way to cleanse the body. This version involves substituting all meals with the Lemon Detox drink.

Breakfast: 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink
Lunch: 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink
Dinner: 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink

This version can be done from a minimum of 5 days. The ideal duration of the Lemon Detox cleanse is 10 days on the Full Body Cleanse.

Inventor, Stanley Burroughs recommends doing the Lemon Detox Diet cleanse for 10 days as this will ensure the body is well cleansed. By the time you get to the 7th day you'll most likely feel so good that going a few extra days will be easy.

2. RELAXED VERSION

The relaxed version allows the body to purify itself at a slower rate, while still taking in some solid food. This version substitutes breakfast or dinner(or even better, both) with the Lemon Detox drink.

Breakfast: 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink
Lunch: Healthy meal
Dinner: 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink

During this program version you should abstain from eating sweets, processed foods, red meat, fried foods, white bread, refined flour, dairy products, coffee and alcohol. These are all food products that tax our natural digestive/cleansing system and inhibit the body's ability to deal with previously stored toxins and wastes.

The relaxed program works by lengthening the time each night that the body can cleanse. This offers the body more time to rejuvenate.

But this version should be done over an extended period, at least two weeks, and it should be understood that while the effects of the relaxed version are not as dramatic as the Fully Body Cleanse version, performing the Relaxed Version for an extended period of time will yield great results

3.THE 50:50 VERSION

This version is a 9 day detox which consists of

3 days on the Relaxed Version
3 days on the Full Body Cleanse
3 days on the Relaxed Version

This is the easier way to initiate yourself into the detox if you have never done it before. It also suits some people's social commitments better.

Why natural health is preferred over conventional medicine.

Natural health has many skeptics, particularly when it come to western, conventional medicine practitioners. While western medicine has its positives, it predominantly focuses on downstream treatment (which is treatment of illnesses rather than prevention).

What natural health aims to do is to reach and maintain good health and lifestyle habits which prevent the development of disease and illness in the first place (the top five leading causes of death are now all lifestyle diseases). If there are any health concerns or issues that may arise, nutrition and sometimes natural herbs and remedies are used to strengthen the body and try and rectify the issue.

Natural therapies and treatment is holistic - focusing on the body as a whole, where as western medicine focuses on each part of the body independent of the other.

Which would you prefer?

Lifestyle disease: A disease associated with the way a person or group of people lives.

Alternate mixing methods

You may slightly alter the mixing quantities of your detox drink.

SYRUP
If you feel that the taste of the syrup is too sweet or strong you may add water to the recommended mixing quantities. For example if you want to add another half a litre of water to your recommended 2 litre batch to reduce the concentration of the syrup you may, but just remember that you will have to drink an extra half a litre ( i.e. 2 extra glasses of the detox drink ).Remember the most important part of the detox drink is to consume the three and a half lemons and the 140ml of syrup per day. So, it may take you 7 glasses or 10 glasses but as long as you drink this portion per day.

CAYENNE PEPPER
If you feel that you have put too much cayenne pepper in the mix, you can slightly reduce the amount. An extra pinch of pepper can make the drink taste more zingy. If you are totally uncomfortable with cayenne pepper then you may substitute the pepper for ginger.

Another option customers use is:
1. Mix the 140ml of lemon juice and water together into a 2 Litre batch as required.
2. Leave the cayenne pepper and Madal Bal syrup out.
3. Then per glass of the lemon juice and water drink half a glass of the lemon and water mix then from a tablespoon consume 20ml of the syrup with a pinch of pepper. (You will not taste the pepper that much as it will dissolve into the thick syrup.)
4. Finish drinking the rest of the glass of lemon juice and water.

5 Rules for this winter

It is now officially winter, which means you have to take extra care for your health to prevent any nasty illnesses getting to you, here's our 5 tips:

  1. Keep Warm. This is a no brainer...
  2. Keep hydrated. When it's colder people tend not to drink as much water, even try drinking tea to keep your fluids up!
  3. Eat for your health. Another no brainer, and this rule should really apply all year round but in winter your body needs extra nutrients to fight off potential pathogens, so plenty of vitamin C!
  4. Take supplements. Supplements aren't always necessary but they can really boost your immune system or vitamin intake if that is what you need.
  5. Keep active. As it gets colder, most people tend to stay indoors and become less active. Try and find some sort of exercise that is enjoyable even in the colder months so you can sustain your health all year round.
