3. Beetroot - beetroot is well known to assist in flushing out your large intestines and is a great thing to include in your diet either in salads, but especially in juices or in smoothies at the beginning of your day on an empty stomach.

Cleansing for summer
Spring is well under way and summer is fast approaching. So if you've been slacking over winter, now is your best chance to kick the comfort foods and bad habits and make a change. When the weather starts to warm up it's generally natural for us to lean towards lighter foods and more water, if you're having trouble kicking bad habits, a detox may be your best option to get back on the right track.
Lemon Detox is an effective way to reset your eating habits and get rid of cravings, which can be the biggest hurdle when trying to clean up your eating.
The 7 day cleanse is the most popular and effective, and the 14 day cleanse is best for seasoned detoxers. If you want more flexibility, the 50:50 cleanse or relaxed version is also an option.

When can you NOT do the detox
The detox is an all natural program and very safe, however there are a few circumstances in which it is not safe.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers - due to the nature of the detox, it is not recommended to undertake the lemon detox while pregnant or lactating. While detoxing, the toxins in your body are released into your blood stream, this can then pass on these toxins to baby through either the placenta or the milk.
- Type 1 diabetics - due to the high fructose content of the lemon detox it is not recommended to undertake the detox if you are type one diabetic. Type 2 diabetics should consult their doctor before undertaking the program.
- Medication - if you are taking medication, a doctor should be consulted beforehand to ensure that there is no risk in detoxing.
- High blood pressure - the detox is safe to do if you have high blood pressure, the salt water drink should be omitted and replaced with senna tea. If medication is taken for blood pressure, a doctor should be consulted first.

Tips for maximizing your detox
- Stay Hydrated - hydration is so important on a everyday basis, and particularly when you are undertaking a detox. It keeps your body working properly, your metabolism going and helps with flushing of toxins.
- Rest - it is important not to exert your body when detoxing. Your body requires rest so that the majority of your energy and blood flow can be directed to assisting with the removal of toxins.
- Body brushing - use a body brush all over your body, always brushing towards the heart, to increase circulation and assist with toxin removal.
Feeling hungry on the detox
Usually, the first thought people have when hearing of the Lemon Detox is "but won't I be hungry?!".
Generally, people find that they are quite hungry on the first few days, purely due to their mentality. It really is mind over matter, because you are still eating (albeit in liquid form) throughout the cleanse. To curb your hunger, first and foremost, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water. Not only does this help with the cleansing process, but hydration is important. Other options is to drink some herbal tea. Sometimes the feeling of hunger can just be the desire for some variety. If you do choose to have some tea, stick to caffeine free, relaxing teas such as peppermint or chamomile.
If you get to the point that you can't take it anymore, you're about to crack if you don't get something in your stomach, have some freshly squeezed orange juice or vegetable soup broth (salt free). This will hopefully fix your hunger without compromising the detox at all.
