Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin essential for numerous functions in the body. It plays` a large role in the immune system, protecting against free radicals and oxidation in the body, repair and maintain an array of tissues in the body.
The body cannot store Vitamin C and an excess is expelled through urine so stores need to be constantly replenished.
Good sources of Vitamin C can be found in numerous foods but are most prominent in fruits and vegetables, including citrus fruits, tomatoes, broccoli, strawberries, kiwi fruit and many more. Generally, if you stick to a diet that consists of a variety of fruits and vegetables, you can’t really go wrong.
Vitamin C is found in high concentration in gastric juices, so has a large role in digestion and it is well known that for optimal health, your digestive system needs to be in good form.

An insufficient vitamin C intake will indefinitely lead to a number of health complications in one way or another. Vitamin C is easily destroyed by heat, so any foods with high vitamin C should be minimally heat processed as it will destroy close to all of it. In store bought food such as orange juice, because of the processing, vitamin C is often destroyed, then added back in just before it is packaged to make up for the losses, but nothing is as good as the naturally present vitamins found in whole unprocessed fruit and vegetables.

Why You Need To Detox

The body has its own, natural detox mechanisms. The liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, intestines, blood and lymphatic systems all work in sync with each other to eliminate harmful toxins and maintain the bodies balance. Despite this, due to the huge quantity of toxins that are literally everywhere we go, in everything we eat, in everything we drink and in what we breathe, there can be a toxic build up despite the bodies own efficient mechanisms. So in order to make sure our body is in optimal condition, sometimes it is necessary to take matters into our own hands and make an effort to detox.

Toxins are potentially harmful chemical agents that can enter the body through ingestion, smoking and drinking. Not only that, our body produces and takes in waste products through energy production and even by simply breathing. So, it is clear that it is inevitable that you will end up with some sort of toxic load in your system.

There are countless foods that have amazing detoxifying effects on the body and by including them in your diet; you will help to maintain optimal health. However, there really only is one way to completely detox the body quickly and efficiently, and that is simply by eliminating everything you possibly can that puts toxins in your body. Obviously we can’t stop eating, drinking, breathing, producing energy and sit in a purified bubble for a week, so the second best option is to undertake a detox program. There are many different ones on the market of all different varieties. But generally, the idea is to minimise the intake of toxins and minimise the work that your digestive system has to do, so redirecting the blood flow to other areas, assisting in detoxification.

When detoxing, it is normal for people to experience what they call the ‘detox crisis’ where before the toxins are eliminated from your body, they are released into the blood stream and circulate through the bloodstream on the way out. When this happens people may experience feelings of lethargy, nausea, headaches, along with other symptoms depending on the individual. These symptoms generally arise around the second or third day of detoxing. After these have passed, people often experience an abundance of energy, better digestion, among countless other benefits.

The Lemon Detox is a tried and tested, simple and effective detox program. You can commit to it anywhere from 5 days - 14 days and it is very flexible and can be worked around your lifestyle easily. It may be challenging at first but the benefits are overwhelming. It involves a drink replacing all of your meals (the drink becomes your food in liquid form) made up of lemon juice, Madal Bal Tree Syrup, cayenne pepper and water. It is as simple as that.

When it comes down to it, many people don’t detox and they are fine for the moment. However, for health that is better than fine, detoxing will get you there.

Bee Pollen

According to researchers at the Institute of Apiculture, Taranov, Russia, “Honeybee pollen is the richest source of vitamins found in Nature in a single food.”

Bee pollen is the male seed of a flower blossom. It is gathered by the bees, then mixed with the honeybees digestive enzymes. It is literally the food of the young bee.
Bee Pollen is considered as one of the most whole and nourishing foods as it contains almost all required nutrients that a human needs. It is such a simple food to include into your diet, but can have such profound health benefits.
Bee pollen contains an amazing 25% percent protein and is rich is trace elements, minerals, vitamins, fatty acids and enzymes. It also boasts immunity enhancing properties, and is high in antioxidants. It could almost be considered as nature’s multivitamin. Bee Pollen is an extremely good option for vegetarians, to boost their B-vitamins (even B12 which is almost exclusively found in animal products) and protein intake.
Besides from these benefits, it may assist with allergies (except bee allergies!), weight management, improving athletic performance, improving fertility, upon countless other things.

Nutrient deficiencies are recognized as a wide and growing problem in society, due to the imbalanced eating habits, and the depleted nutrient level in food due to poor soil quality and growing conditions. Because of this, it is important to include as much nutrient dense food in your diet.

Our Bee Pollen is from remote Western Australia, with no chemicals or pesticides used in the area, and when collected and processed, is not heated high enough to destroy vitamins or enzymes.

Fibre for health

Fibre is the only macro-nutrient that is indigestible by humans, yet it still has such an important role in health.  Fibre is an indigestible carbohydrate found in plants, which is essential for maintaining digestive health. It also helps to stabilise blood cholesterol, and blood glucose levels. The combination of these qualities means that moving from a low fibre to a high fibre diet can aid weight loss efforts immensely. With this, also comes lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and higher HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol). It is important to slowly introduce fibre if your current diet is low in fibre, as a quick increase can lead to digestive discomfort, it is also equally important to increase your water intake. Fibre rich foods include grains such as wholegrain bread and legumes, fruits and vegetables. The recommended intake is approximately 30g. Through an ideal and balanced diet this can easily be achieved.

African Mango is a great way to increase natural fibre intake in your diet, with a bonus of assisting in weight loss and lowering LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol. It is a simple addition to your day that can make a huge difference to your health.
